We are a student-led organization designed to give you real-world work experience across media industries. Students work together under faculty mentorship to teach one another, take on leadership roles, and create outstanding media.

Creative Director

JOB DESCRIPTION

The creative director blends strategy with creative storytelling, leading the agency with exceptional enthusiasm for accomplishing the vision of Soapbox. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced skills in a creative discipline (design, copy, video, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable interfacing with clients
  • Comfortable giving feedback
  • Critical problem solving skills

DUTIES

  • Communicate expectations, company goals, and problem solutions with Department Heads and Account Executives.
  • Train and support Senior Account Executives on the creative process, including creative briefs and their role in the process.
  • Assist Department Heads in using proper processes and following the creative brief while leading their teams with positivity, determination, and creativity.
  • Build trust with clients to ensure clear expectations and maintain good relations throughout the project.
  • Identify and address issues hindering the growth and efficiency of the creative process.
  • Approve final deliverables to ensure they meet established quality standards and goals outlined in the creative brief.
Project Manager

Your strong communication skills are reflected in your ability to develop and maintain healthy relationships.   • Master in the art of critical thinking

DUTIES

  • Be the liaison between the creatives and the client
  • Lead team meetings to ensure productivity
  • Give project updates to the client regularly
  • Manage every aspect of projects from the first contact to final delivery of the product
  • Meet deadlines and make sure everyone else does too
  • Work well in a team environment
Graphic Designer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Graphic designers come to work ready to launch their creative ideas. They design anything clients request. This could mean designing logos, motion graphics, infographics, posters and everything else that helps fulfill client needs. Our designers strive to find the best, most creative ways to market our clients both in print and on social media platforms.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Excelled in COMM 130 or ART 130
  • Excelled in COMM 305: Vector Graphics (preferred but not required)
  • Exceptional skills in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Great taste and a strong sense of design, typography, color, layout, and illustration
  • Familiar with Adobe After Effects, InDesign, Dimension, and XD 
  • Passion for creativity, finishing projects, and collaboration

DUTIES

  • Produce multiple assets for posters, motion graphics, social media visuals, conference booths, and more
  • Explore and produce new artistic media
  • Seek constructive feedback
  • Prepare files for submission and approval processes
  • Work well in a team environment.

Video Producer

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Video producers possess a passion for bringing things to life. With an eye for detail, our video team can envision their ideas in full clarity and utilize their extensive skills and know-how to execute them. Video producers are organized and productive while they confidently handle multiple projects. From script writing and planning to shooting and editing, our video producers experience every aspect of production and walk away with invaluable expertise in their field.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Taken COMM 130 and COMM 260
  • Familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve
  • Experience producing video content
  • Time-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Innovative and original ideas

DUTIES

  • Shoot and edit interviews, “B-roll” supplemental footage, advertisements, and short narratives
  • Record high-quality audio (dialogue, natural sound, room tone, supplemental sound (“foley” or “SFX”)
  • Use Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and DaVinci Resolve
  • Share what you have, and teach what you know
  • Work well in a team environment
Researcher

JOB DESCRIPTION

Researchers and marketers are the lifeblood of this industry. Not only will they help address client needs and find a target audience, but they also provide our creatives with in-depth research about our various projects, helping them to know the facts of the products and services we promote.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Taken COMM 280 or Math 221
  • Capable of working independently and with a team
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with Qualtrics

DUTIES

  • Conduct surveys and focus groups
  • Prepare and give presentations about results to clients or other departments
  • Learn the basics of market research
  • Utilize programs such as Qualtrics, SPSS, and Excel
  • Work well in a team environment
Copywriter

JOB DESCRIPTION

A copywriter’s passion lies in writing creative and original content. You oversee all copy Soapbox produces, including but not limited to: scripts, social media content, blog posts, print ads and brochures. Your head is full of innovative and unique ideas ready to be shared with your peers. You enjoy editing your peers’ writing pieces and providing tips for them to consider implementing.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Taken COMM 111
  • Impeccable spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills
  • A creative mind that can think through problems
  • Brilliant ideas that showcase themselves in your writing
  • Ability to write copy that captivates, interests and impacts anyone who reads it

DUTIES

  • Write, edit and rewrite all copy produced for clients
  • Help formulate the “big idea” for each campaign
  • Work well in a team environment

Desk editors oversee a team of writers, specializing in covering a particular beat. Desk editors not only have the opportunity to write articles, they also provide mentorship to reporters, helping them improve writing, manage deadlines, and develop great communication skills. 

Copy Editor

Copy editors are the overseers of grammar and AP style. They make sure every article is in ship shape and ready to publish. They have an acute eye for detail and are eager to help everybody on the team succeed.

Multimedia Editor

The multimedia editor plays a key role in creating excellent content and managing audiences across platforms. They oversee content creation on social media, manage advertiser relations, craft email newsletters, and monitor website analytics. They make pivotal decisions about how to improve engagement and reach, which drives the direction of the entire organization. 

Broadcast Producer

A broadcast producer works alongside reporters and videographers to craft the news broadcast for YouTube and other platforms. They manage scheduling, planning content, and ensuring the final cut is not only professional, but engaging for every viewer.

Not ready to take the job but still want to gain experience? You can participate in Scroll and Soapbox as a 1-credit practicum. No prerequisites required! Practicum experiences aren’t paid positions; however, you get real world experience working in a media organization among other students, and you may have the opportunity to get hired in future semesters.
